Meet the beautiful people of the Circus, and the freaks who live in the Village next to them. Mangled, jangled, misunderstood, all find place in the rich tapestry of this book.
Siamese twins separate to lose half a heart each, and find snake-man and tiger-taming lovers. A man bitten by a crocodile becomes a God, and a Devadasi woos the entire countryside with her culinary artistry.
Fates intertwined lead sometimes to tragedy, sometimes happy summits of fame. A clown finds his place in Hollywood and mute animals break unspeakable chains. A twisted man falls in love with a mirror and a white man is unmade by the Indian sun.
In this book are tales for every season and every reason. Tales of human depravity that take innocent lives, and of a murderers’ insanity that follows, a fitting revenge by nature, red in tooth and claw.
These stories are told in the form of narrative poems in rhyming couplets.
Look inside and you will find, you have been to this Village. Surely, you have been to this Circus too.
♥ Do judge this book by its cover because not only is the cover prepossessing, the story is enthralling too.
♥ The illustration of the main character at the beginning of each poem is bewitching and gives a vivid picture of the tale.
♥ The writing style of the author is highly impressive.
♥ The vocabulary employed by the author was exceptional. It did make me sit with Google open on my mobile phone (not that I mind though).
♥ All the characters had a well-developed background story.
♥ The tales were amusing yet unsettling, dark but hilarious. It has the perfect blend of various emotions.
♥ I love rhyming poems and thus, I did find myself reading the poem aloud from time to time.
Though the vocabulary is slightly difficult, but I do recommend all readers to give it a try.

"For the beauty he had hopelessly sought from his kin,Was a beauty that resided all along, within."
My thoughts:
✦ Circus Folks and Village Freaks is a collection of 18 twisted tales that are written in the form of rhyming poems.
✦ It unravels the story of the freaks that now work in circus and the reasons why they were abandoned by their own family.
✦ It exhibits how these disowned freaks are open heartedly accepted by the circus.
✦ The tales deal with various issues like superstitions, greed, racism, feminism, homosexuality.
✦ The book consists of tales like that of a man bitten by a crocodile who is regarded a deity, two Siamese twins sharing a heart, a mustachioed lady Rita, the dart thrower Luxmi, the 5 organ sisters, Murali who eats metals and many other unrealistic stories. The circus master who controlled all the freaks was also a broken soul.

Recommend?"Which body part is vital, which one is not so much?Pare it down to barest bones, what are we but a stew
Of ganglia, nerves and neurons, and the barest bit of glue?"
Though the vocabulary is slightly difficult, but I do recommend all readers to give it a try.
