Blurb:
Half-Fae, half-human Bryce Quinlan loves her life. Every night is a party and Bryce is going to savour all the pleasures Lunathion – also known as Crescent City – has to offer. But then a brutal murder shakes the very foundations of the city, and brings Bryce's world crashing down.
Two years later, Bryce still haunts the city's most notorious nightclubs – but seeking only oblivion now. Then the murderer attacks again. And when an infamous Fallen angel, Hunt Athalar, is assigned to watch her every footstep, Bryce knows she can't forget any longer.
As Bryce and Hunt fight to unravel the mystery, and their own dark pasts, the threads they tug ripple through the underbelly of the city, across warring continents, and down to the deepest levels of Hel, where things that have been sleeping for millennia are beginning to stir ...
With unforgettable characters and page-turning suspense, this richly inventive new fantasy series by #1 New York Times bestselling author Sarah J. Maas delves into the heartache of loss, the price of freedom – and the power of love.

My thoughts:
Plotline:
The story revolves around Bryce Adelaide Quinlan, a 23-year-old half-human half-fae, who works at Griffin Antiquities. She is often known to be a party girl – whose life is surrounded by clubs, alcohol, and drugs. Jesiba Roga, a sorceress and the owner of Griffin Antiquities, works under direct orders of the Under-King, is rumored to have transformed the people who have displeased her into animals and stored them in a secret library.
Bryce lives with her college best friend Danika Fendyr, an alpha-wolf and often hangs out with the rest of the pack – Connor, Nathalie, Zach, Zelda, and Thorne. Connor and Bryce have had a crush on each other for a long time but never actually dated.
When Bryce breaks up with her current boyfriend Reid Redner (a human), she decides to hang out with her close friends Juniper and Fury at Raven’s. After Connor finally asks Bryce out, she finds herself surrounded by utmost happiness. Until she gets back home and finds the pack of wolves in a devastating state.
What follows next is an encounter with a killer demon Kristallos, a round of interrogation, the theft of a Horn from the temple, Micah - a powerful archangel, wanting Bryce to be a part of the search and assigning the Umbra Mortis Hunt Athalar to protect Bryce. Bryce is forced to go down a road that will not only put her life in danger but also shake the establishment of her relationships.
What happened to Danika and the pack of wolves? Who is the demon that has been set free and who is responsible for it? How will Bryce manage to work with the Shadow of Death, Hunt Athalar? Was Danika seriously trustworthy or was she lying to Bryce all along? Who stole the Horn and why is it being given so much importance? Will Bryce live to find out the mystery that has surrounded her all of a sudden, or will she be entangled in the circle of lie and deceit?

Language and writing style:
The House of Earth and Blood is the first installment in the adult fantasy series Crescent City. This is the first book I have read by the author Sarah J. Maas and now, I seriously feel I have been missing out! Her writing style has the power to evoke so many emotions one after the other. There are so characters that are introduced, but without dragging any of their storylines unnecessarily. Even though I finished reading this book almost 48 hours ago, I still haven’t been able to process my thoughts pretty well.
My favourite characters are Danika, Ruhn - Bryce’s fae brother and Lehabah - the guardian of Griffin Antiquities. The love-hate relationship shared by Ruhn and Bryce was pretty realistic and sweet. The gradual growth in Bryce and Athie’s relationship was extremely heart-warming to read.
Although the story mainly revolves around Bryce and Hunt, Danika too remains a very important character throughout. The author has created an irresistible city.
The book was definitely intimidating to look at. When I started reading this book, I didn’t think I’d be able to make even halfway through it but I am glad I picked it. Although the first 200 pages were slightly slow-paced, the story builds up pretty well after that.

Title and book cover:
Crescent City has given origin to 4 major houses, namely: House of Earth and Blood, House of Sky and Breath, House of Many Waters, and House of Flame and Shadow. But the first book in this series mainly focuses upon the creatures of The House of Earth and Blood, that is, shifters, witches and humans. The book cover has a splendid graphic representation of Bryce Adelaide Quinlan, the crescent moon and the powers that surround her.

Recommend?
Totally! If you love fantasy, this book is the perfect pick for you.

February 2020 TBR

Hello, readers! I cannot believe 31 days have already passed. Last month, I surpassed by goal of reading 5 books by reading a total of 6 books, which I am ecstatic about. This month, I have made a target that seems rather unattainable to me 😂 I have decided to TRY and read 8 books this month. Here is the list of books I plan on reading: 1. A Suitable Boy Blurb: The book covers an engaging story that is set in the post-independence India. The story unfolds through four middle class families—Mehras, Kapoors, Khans and Chatterjis. It also describes India's caste system that has four main classes, which are further based originally on personality, profession and birth. However, the main plot of the novel revolves around Lata Mehra, a university student, who is under pressure of her mother Rupa and brother Arun for getting married. Her family is looking for a ‘suitable boy’ who could meet the standards set by her family. After explaining the life of Lata and people around her,

February 2020 Wrap Up

Hola, amigos! How did February fly by so quickly? I remember picking up books for February TBR just a few days ago, and here I am, posting a monthly wrap-up again!! Anyhow, I had decided to read 8 books this month, but I could complete 7 books only. I had to ditch 2 books from my TBR because I realized reading 3 classics in one month would prove to be a huge task in itself! So, instead of 'A Suitable Boy' and 'Jane Eyre', I picked up 'Jasmine Days'. Here are my views about the books I read this month:- 1. The First Word ✨ I was gifted this book by a friend of mine (check out his blog !) The book cover is absolutely gorgeous and the title is extremely catchy. ✨ The book consists of a collection of poems that revolves around various aspects of human life and our surroundings. Instead of focusing on some dystopian happy world, the poet has written upon topics that reflect the real world and its injustices. ✨ Best friends, family, the love of our life to
